Message I have never seen so many replies from people that have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. If the person who sold you the car is non-responsive, you can order a copy of the body file from the Florida DMV ([ http://www.hsmv.state.fl.us/html/titlinf.html ]). If you have lost all of your paperwork that is the best way to find out who the actual prior owner was. While it is a crime in Florida to sell a motor vehicle without transferring title, it would seem that this is probably your fault since you had the paperwork, but negligently lost it. If the seller refuses to execute new paperwork, you could either file an action in Florida to declare you to be the lawful owner of the vehicle or have a local repair shop that you trust absolutely file for title to perfect a mechanic's lien on the basis of work they performed on the vehicle.
